8. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We keep this short and specific. Our site uses:

  • Card scan (wba_card, 30 days): set only when you scan a QR code on a WBA business card or in a WBA video. It holds a random ID, the time of the scan and which card or video it came from, so we can greet you and know whether an inquiry came from a card. We do not store your IP address. Tap “Forget me” on the welcome note to delete it at any time.
  • Scan label (wba_from, 1 hour): names the video you scanned, for the welcome note.
  • Welcome note flags (stored in your browser): remember that you have already seen the welcome note, so it does not keep reappearing.
  • Google Analytics (_ga, up to 2 years): counts visits and page views so we know which research gets read.
  • Google Ads (_gcl_au and the gclid link tag, up to 90 days): tells us when a visit came from one of our ads.
  • Meta Pixel (_fbp and the fbclid link tag, up to 90 days): tells Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, when you visit our site or the Jefferson County directory, and when you send an inquiry or tap our phone number, so we can see whether our Facebook and Instagram ads work. If you are logged in to Facebook or Instagram, Meta may connect this to your account and use it to choose which ads you see, under Meta's privacy policy.

Apart from the Meta Pixel described above, we do not use advertising cookies. To stop Meta from using your visits to other websites, including ours, to choose your ads, turn it off in Meta's Ad preferences. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and the site will still work.

11. Infrastructure & Tooling

Some analytical work published by Watertown Business Advisory, LLC is supported by independently operated internal research and data tooling. These systems are used to facilitate analysis, modeling, and interpretation and are not offered as commercial services.

12. Newsletter (WBA Field Notes)

If you join WBA Field Notes, we store your email address, the date you signed up, the page you signed up from, and the wording you agreed to. It is used only to send WBA Field Notes. Every issue includes an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time by writing to [email protected]. We do not sell or share the list.

The Epistemic Debt Self-Audit runs entirely in your browser. Your answers are not sent to us or stored anywhere; we only count that the audit was completed and the overall result band, through the analytics described in section 8.

13. Phone Calls

When you call (315) 204-1015, our phone carrier keeps a standard call record: the calling number, the time and the length of the call. Calls to this number are recorded, and the greeting tells you so. We use recordings to follow up accurately and for quality assurance: we review calls to check that the AI assistant behaves as described here and to improve it. Recordings are not used to train Google’s or anyone else’s AI models.

An AI assistant answers first. It tells you it is an AI assistant, asks your name, what the call is about and the best number to reach you, and then tries to connect you with a consultant or takes a message. The conversation with the assistant is processed by Google’s Gemini service, which runs the assistant and writes a short summary so we can follow up.

We keep call recordings for 90 days and then delete them automatically. The written summary is kept with your inquiry. We do not sell call information or use it for marketing. To have a recording, call record or summary deleted sooner, write to [email protected].
