Question 1

How do I keep pipes from freezing?

Accepted Answer

Keep the heat on, even when you are away; let faucets on outside walls drip on the coldest nights; open cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls; and shut off and drain outdoor spigots before winter.

Question 2

What should I do if a pipe bursts?

Accepted Answer

Shut off the main water valve right away, then call a plumber. Find your main shut-off before winter so you are not looking for it in an emergency.

Question 3

Do plumbers need a state licence in New York?

Accepted Answer
